Sailing the Spanish Virgin Islands

image1

The Spanish Virgin Islands are a well-kept secret, even back in the days of Blackbeard and other legendary pirates who used these islands for home port. The U.S Marines and Navy have also used the islands for bombing practice until recently, which has kept land developers, commercialism, and an abundance of sailors away.

The result is picturesque, unspoiled islands, with spacious deserted white sandy beaches; crystal clear blue water, and still healthy reefs teeming with fish, coral and crustaceans. There are hills to hike and explore; nearly abandoned anchorages, and the natural charm of the other Virgin Islands from forty years ago.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 Boarding starts at 2 pm with a Pain Killer cocktail to wash away your travels away! Before we launch and head to our first anchorage we will have a boat briefing to go over a few rules of the road and get everyone accommodated for their stay. After we are all settled in, we head out for an evening sail to a close, more private anchorage on the southwest corner of Isla Pineros.

Day 2 Breakfast aboard, followed by our longest sail of the trip to the beautiful Flamenco Island, where we will harbor for two nights, at different anchorages. The first night we will anchor in Punta Tamarindo, a beautiful beach anchorage off the west coast of the island. Lunch and Dinner will be served on the boat. The rest of the day will be reserved for relaxing, swimming and enjoying the views.

Day 3 Breakfast aboard, followed by a sail around the island to Flamenco Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean! We will do lunch this day ashore at the local beach bar, before heading out to our anchorage for the night in Bahia de Tortuga, main Anchorage on Culebrita island. Here we will enjoy an amazing sunset and dinner aboard.

Day 4 Breakfast aboard, followed by a hike to El Faro, an abandoned light on the 300 ft Hill. After our morning adventure we are off to civilization for a wonderful dinner in Culebra. We will have a short sail into Culebra, then it’s time for adventures on land! Lunch will be aboard, and dinner will be ashore.

Day 5 Breakfast aboard, then we set sail for Vieques. During our sail we will cocktail and eat some lunch and do some deep-sea fishing. Our first night in Vieques will be nothing short of a magical, as we will be anchored just outside the Bioluminescent bay on the south side of the Island. Once dusk hits we will venture in by dinghy to see the magic happen! Dinner aboard.

Day 6 Let’s hang out with the locals! After breakfast aboard, we will have a short sail to our anchorage for the day in Esperanza. Here we will sight see this wonderful little Spanish town, followed by dinner ashore. A great breather day off the boat!

Day 7 Last full day! Breakfast aboard followed by a sail to our final anchorage off Palomino Island. Once we arrive at our final anchorage we will have time for beach exploration, snorkeling and swimming, and of course cocktails! Lunch and dinner will be served aboard.

Day 8 Short motor back to the marina with Breakfast served along the way. Once in port we will say our farewells and you are free to go!

Recent Testimonials

My husband and I joined the Nauti Crew for our first sailing trip ever and it was EPIC! Captain Beau and first mate Davey were fun,  knowledgeable and helped make our week in the BVI easy and memorable.  Our trip had so many highlights including island hopping to see the  Baths, Foxy's, the Soggy Dollar Bar, Anegada, the Indians, etc., daily  swimming, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing (where we caught, cooked and  ate our catch) and fantastic food and drinks everyday! I highly  recommend Nauti Adventures for your sailing trip! I can't wait to  book another adventure! Thank you Beau and Davey for the amazing #NautiAdventures!

This was my husband and my first sailing trip together, my husband had  been before, and it was the most amazing experience. I really left the trip thinking why had I not done this before now. We cannot express how wonderful, knowledgeable and experienced the Nauti Adventures crew are. They really can do it all; from sailing a giant boat to catching, cleaning and cooking fish from the sea, to winning a conch blowing contest at a local bar. We had the time of our lives and will remember this trip forever.
